According to Wikipedia, the area was given the name Broadalbin by 18th century settlers, named for the Breadalbane region of Scotland. The Hotel Broadalbin, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), was originally built as a glove store in 1854 and later converted to a hotel in 1881. In 1930, when the Great Sacandaga Lake was formed, a portion of the town was consumed by the lake.
